Seek More, See More…What’s Next?

If you’re reading this, let me preface by saying: I am not an expert on life by any means, but I have seen enough to know that we live in a large world, full of unknown wonders and it’s our job to seek them out.

When we’re kids, we’re told that we can be anything and then whoever is telling us this starts off with: “you can be a lawyer, a doctor, a firefighter, and astronaut” but what they leave out is everything in between.

As a child, I was invested in theatre and music. It’s still very much a large part of my life and I dreamed big. First, I wanted to be on Broadway and I looked into schools like Juilliard and NYU. When I got into piano and guitar, I settled into looking at music programs at various universities…I was about 10 years old at this time.

Then I took a break. Sometimes that happens when you’re 10 going on 11.

My dad had a really life-changing surgery and the person who gave him medicine so he could sleep through the countless hours of the procedure seemed so important. Suddenly, I wanted to grow up to be an anesthesiologist. It seemed so honorable to be the last person someone saw before going into surgery.

How incredible would it be to mean something? Isn’t that what we all want? To make some sort of difference whether or not it’s big or small?

When we seek out the things that make the hairs on our skin stand up, that make our hearts race with excitement and make our hearts shatter, we start to see ourselves more in these moments. We start participating in our dreams more and then those dreams turn into goals and those goals turn into our life’s purpose.

It’s all really simple, we just make it complicated because that’s the human condition.

So who am I now, you ask?

To put it simply: I am not anything that I ever planned to be, but I am sure proud of who I am.

Sure, I’m not an anesthesiologist or a full-time musician. No, I didn’t go to Juilliard or NYU.

But I chased those wonders — I sought them out and took the paths I needed to take to get to where I am now. I have learned that we aren’t always right or sure and that’s okay! Time moves on, we change and we figure ourselves out.

So, what’s next? I’m not really sure — it’s all circular and I’m sure the answer is waiting for me.

All I have to do is seek it out.

You should too. Find yourself, find something new, discover your old passions, love more and live unapologetically.

Seek more, see more and you’ll find what’s next.

Welcome to life, my friends. Stay well and I’ll talk to you soon.
